Kyari’s co-defendants plead guilty to cocaine trafficking
Two of the six defendants, including Abba Kyari, who are being tried for importing 21.35kilogrammes of cocaine have pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them.
The two are Chibuna Umeibe and Emeka Ezenwanne. They are the traffickers from whom Abba Kyari and his police colleagues had seized the cocaine.
The two pleaded guilty to counts 5, 6 and 7, after the court registrar read the charges.
However, Kyari and four police officers involved in the trial have pleaded not guilty to the charges of cocaine trafficking.
The four police officers, aside Kyari, are ACP Sunday Ubua, ASP Bawa James, Inspectors Simon Agirigba, John Nuhu. However, Umoru is said to be at large.
Meanwhile, the trial judge Emeka Nwite has adjourned hearing the application for Kyari and his colleagues bail till March 14. Kyari is being represented by former attorney-general Kanu Agabi.
