Rivers ex-factional speaker Ehie, others to be arraigned for terrorism

Former factional speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Edison Ehie is among the suspects facing prosecution for terrorism. Ehie is said to be at large and might not be arraigned physically as the others. He resigned his membership of the state assembly in the thick of the disagreement between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The other defendants –all loyalists of Governor Siminalaye Fubara –are Chima Eguma Ezebalike, Prince Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald and Ochueja Thankgod.

They are to be arraigned before Justice Bolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The police accused the defendants of invading, vandalizing and torching the Rivers State House of Assembly, which occurred last year.

The police also claimed that the suspects killed a Superintendent of Police, (SP) Bako Agbashim and five police informants at Ahoada community of the state and some police informants too. The said informants are Charles Osu, Ogbonna Eja, Idaowuka Felix, Paul Victor Chibuogu and Saturday Edi.

In addition to the police claims, the suspects are alleged to belong to various cult groups, such as the Supreme Viking Confraternity, Degbam, Iceland, and Greenland –used to unleash mayhem on the people of the state.

According to the police, their alleged offences are punishable under section 26 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act 2022.
