Killers of former governorship aspirant arrested

The Police have announced the arrest of two persons connected with the death of a former governorship aspirant in Zamfara state, Alhaji Sagir Hamidu.

TheCornet reports that the bandits waylaid and killed Hamidu at Rijana, along the Kaduna – Abuja expressway on Sunday, November 21, 2021.

In their statement, the police named the suspects as Sani Usman, 22, and Mohammed Tijjani, 23. Both men hail from Pai Konkore, Gwagwalada, in the Federal Capital Territory.

The suspects reportedly belonged to kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate operating along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were part of the bandit syndicate which carried out the attack on travellers at Rijana,” the statement read.

The suspects were said to have “gruesomely murdered” Hamidu while they “kidnapped a nursing mother, leaving her baby behind in a nearby bush.”
