Israel ‘surrounds Hamas leader’s bunker’, kills weapons developer

Israel Defence Force (IDF) claims it has surrounded a bunker where Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar. It also claimed to have killed the group’s weapon developer.

While giving an update of its ground offensive in Gaza, the IDF said: “Based on ISA and IDF intelligence, an IDF fighter jet killed Mohsen Abu Zina, Hamas’s head of weapons and industries.”

The IDF said Mohsen Abu Zina served as one of Hamas’s “leading weapons developers” and “was an expert in developing strategic weapons and rockets used by Hamas”.

The report has not been independently verified.

Some watchers have expressed the opinion that the conflict might escalate beyond Gaza, if Israel arrests Sinwar.

Last month, Hamas carried out its most daring attack on Israel, kidnapping over 100 Israelis including the elderly.

Israel responded to the attack with brutal bombardment of Gaza and currently carrying out a ground onslaught.

Israel’s military campaign is believed to have resulted in the deaths of at least 10,000 Gaza residents including women and children.
