INEC crisis team dispatched to Kogi over result sheets theft

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has dispatched its senior officials to Kogi State after a report that some people snatched the result sheets meant for the ongoing governorship poll.

INEC said, “Our attention has been drawn to a report that filled result sheets were discovered in some polling units in Kogi State. The Commission views this situation seriously.

“Our senior officials deployed to the state are currently investigating the incident(s). The Commission will communicate its decision earnestly.”

The response follows a video posted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) standard bearer, Senator Dino Melaye, in which he claimed that APC supporters in the Ogori/Msngogo Local Government area were tampering with the result sheets.

“APC is trying to compromise the election in Ogori/Msngogo Local Government of Kogi State. Kogites resist evil,” Melaye titled his video posted on his official X account (formerly Twitter).

The Kogi electorate is voting for a successor to incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello, who is in the twilight of his second and final constitutional term. The main contenders are the governing All Progressives Congress’ candidate, Ahmed Ododo, and. Melaye.
