Eight die in road accident

A road accident involving a private and commercial vehicles resulted in the deaths of eight persons while six others sustained injuries.

The incident happened at Shadarki Village, along the Darazo – Bauchi road, in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Yusuf Abdullahi, the sector command, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the incident happened Wednesday afternoon. Giving a preliminary assessment, Abdullahi attributed the mishap to ‘wrongful overtaking’.

He said, “The crash occurred on Wednesday at 1.32 pm and we were immediately informed about it. Our men rushed to the scene of the incident within 10 minutes for a rescue operation.

“The crash involved 14 people – five male adults, six female adults, two male children and one female child.

“Immediately our rescue team arrived at the scene of the incident, they evacuated the victims to the General Hospital, Darazo, for medical treatment and confirmation.”

“While there, a medical doctor confirmed eight of them dead. The corpses were deposited at the morgue while the injured are being treated.

“Three male adults and three female adults sustained bruises, head injury and fracture,” Abdullahi said.
