Lagos road accident claims 16 lives

A road accident that happened in Epe, a division of Lagos state, has claimed 16 lives. Aside the dead, five others were critically injured and are correctly receiving treatment at a hospital.

The accident occurred as a result of a collision involving two vehicles.

Olabisi Sonusi, public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos Command, said that the crash occurred at 03:00.

He attributed the accident to poor visibility and reckless driving by the drivers of the two vehicles.

ā€œThe vehicles involved in the crash were a white bus with Registration number KTN 262YJ and an Articulated truck (Registration Number unknown),ā€ the statement read.

ā€œFRSC operatives and other emergency management agencies are on the ground, ensuring prompt recovery and evacuation of all crashed vehicles.

ā€œThe Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Lagos Sector Command Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, therefore, advised motorists to always avoid night journey because of impaired visibility at that hour.

ā€œHe also admonished the motoring public always to observe construction signage and speed limits at such zones.

ā€œOgungbemide is also using this medium to commiserate with the families of the deceased while wishing the injured quick recovery.ā€
