Greedy father arrested over son’s death

A Port Harcourt-based father’s desire to make quick wealth off his son’s condition eventually led to the latter’s death and his own arrest too.

The said father, identified as Ejike, had conspired with his sibling, Paul to have the hump on his son’s back excised. Paul, who is said to be a pastor, led Ejike to a certain Pastor Olawale.

The trio and their accomplices believed a fabled substance, believed to be ‘mercury’, is embedded in the hump of every hunchbacked and planned to extract that of the victim. The operation resulted in the victim’s death, hence by arrest.

The state-owned vigilante, ONELGA OSPAC, arrested the trio. According to the outfit, the suspects had attempted to flee Port Harcourt after realising the 24-year-old man victim, Lucky, died during the operation. Olatoye had told the operatives during interrogation that Paul told him Ejike (the boy’s father) had for long wanted to exterminate the boy.

“I asked him why, and he said the boy was a thief; the boy was this and that. He said when the boy was much younger, the father attempted to sell him, but it didn’t work out well,” Olatoye reportedly told his interrogators.

The suspects have been handed to the police for prosecution.
