Gani Adams speaks on his criminal allegation against Sanwo-Olu’s CoS

Gani Adams, who holds the title of Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland (translating into generalissimo of Yoruba race), has clarified his claim that the chief of staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Tayo Ayinde, gave the sum of ₦45million to self-determination activist, Sunday Igboho.

Adams could be heard in a leaked audio, saying that Igboho received the said money from Ayinde at the latter’s hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, for the purpose of maligning him.

In the same audio recording, Adams claimed that Ayinde retained ₦5million for himself from the money, which he believed came from Bola Tinubu, now President of Nigeria, at the time of their meeting.

Equally, Adams also alleged in the recording that Igboho had a hand in the murder of one-time minister, Chief Bola Ige.

Both Ayinde and Igboho denied the allegations and had separately served pre-action notices on Adams to either retract the claim or face legal action.

In his reaction to their actions, Adams alleged a “grand conspiracy” to discredit him. He revealed that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi had intervened in the matter but Igboho and Ayinde apparently failed to heed to the settlement.

Adams said his lawyers, in a response to Igboho and Ayinde, had stated that controversial audio recorded in 2021 during a conversation with his younger brother, was doctored.

“The conversation was initiated by the young man who claimed he wanted a reconciliation between myself, Igboho and some other people.

“It was while responding on reasons for reconciliation at the time that he mentioned the names of the two people,” Adams explained.

“My statement was not done in bad faith and it was purely a private conversation.

“On the issue of my brother, Tayo Ayinde, let me make it clear here that I repeatedly said that whatever was said was a rumour that couldn’t be substantiated or made public,”he added.
