Fifa commissions ‘Pele’ stadium in AfricaÂ
Fifa president Gianni Infantino on Wednesday commissioned the Kigali Pele Stadium, in Rwanda.
The stadium, built in honour of the Brazilian football legend, has a 22,000 sitting capacity.
Rwandan President Paul Kigame led the ceremony, which coincides with the 73rd Fifa Congress in Kigali holding in the country’s capital, Kigali.
President Kagame thanked Infantino for giving his country an opportunity to honour Pele by naming the stadium in his name.
Responding, Infantino said the move was the best way to keep Pele’s football memories.
The soccer legend revered the world for his outstandingly successful football career died last December.
