Why we retained Eguavoen – NFF
The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, has stated the reason for retaining Super Eagles technical director Augustine Eguavoen.
NFF statement announcing Eguavoen’s retention stated Nigeria’s “positive performance” at the AFCON tournament.
The football body said the performance of the national football team ‘has given hope to Nigerians and boosted our confidence in the present coaching crew to qualify us for the World Cup in Qatar’.
Besides Eguavoen, ex-international Emmanuel Amuneke will serve as the team’s chief coach. Amuneke had previously coached Nigeria’s U-20 national team.
Others in the coaching crew are Salisu Yusuf, 2nd assistant/chief coach CHAN;
Joseph Yobo, 3rd assistant; and Aloysius Agu, goalkeepers’ trainer.
The NFF thanked Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro for showing his interest in coaching the Super Eagles.
“We acknowledge and appreciate the interest that Mr. Jose Peseiro has shown in Nigeria Football during our very cordial discussions and have absolutely no doubt about his capacity,” Mohammed Sanusi, the NFF General Secretary said.
“We believe that perhaps in the future, there could be an opportunity to work with him,” he added.
