Terrorists show ‘compassion’ with naira giveaway

A group of terrorists believed to be members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) is said to have distributed some old naira notes to commuters, along the Maiduguri/Monguno Highway, Borno state.

The terrorists, dressed in military camouflage and mounting two gun trucks, shared their freebies unhindered, according to a report by Daily Trust.

The Jihadists supposedly decided on the naira giveaway as way to beat the cashless policy drive of the government.

An eyewitness, Bakura Ibrahim, reportedly claimed the terrorists took position under a tree to share the several sacks of money.

He said, “We left Monguno at about 12 noon. As we approached Mairari, there were no existing checkpoints in the area; we were apprehensive.

“They stopped us and asked if we were going to Maiduguri, then they started giving each person 100,000 old naira notes, but we could not believe it. They gave each occupant of the Golf Volkswagen.”
