DSS grills Senator Yari; read his many run-ins with the law

The Department of State Services (DSS) has interrogated Senator Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara West) over an unspecified issue.

PUNCH is reporting that the secret police grilled Senator Yari for many hours, and it quoted a source saying that the politician might have been released.

“Senator Yari is still in the DSS custody, but he should be out soon in sha ’Allah. He went to their office himself after the plenary. I escorted him there and he has been there since then,” the source quoted in the report, said.

The senator became incommunicado on Saturday, the report said.

The former Zamfara state governor (Yari) had recently vied for the seat of president of senate but lost to Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Senator Yari was, in 2022, was linked to the theft of N84billion by the former accountant-general of the federation, Ahmed Idris.

A year before then, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested Yari for allegedly misappropriating various sums of money -$56,056.75; N12.9m, N11.2m, $303m, N217,388.04 and $311.8m – found in different bank accounts.

In a particular report, Africa at LSE stated that, in June 2021, officials at the Kokota International Airport in Ghana intercepted 978 bars of gold valued at about 8.2 billion naira (£14.5m) belonging to Yari.
