Gambia’s. Barrow wins second term

Gambia’s incumbent President Adama Barrow has retained his seat after winning a second term vote announced late Sunday. The country’s electoral commission announced him the winner of the poll, throwing his supporters into jubilation.

Crowds of Barrow’s supporters marched through the streets of the capital to a din of horns and danced on a vast esplanade.

Commenting on his victory, Barrow urged his supporters to respect those who voted for his opponents in a “free, fair and transparent election”.

“I will do all I can and utilise every resource at my disposal to make The Gambia a better place for us all,” he said

At the same time, Ousainou Darboe , his leading challenger and other opponents, have disputed the victory.

President Barrow first came to power in 2016. Born February 15, 1965, Barrow –a real estate developer –is third president of the tiny West African country.

He defeated long-time dictator Yahya Jammeh, who ruled for 20 years before he was forced to go into exile.
