Naval rantings allegedly stab senior police officer to death

Unidentified naval personnel are said to have stabbed an assistant superintendent of police to death during a fracas between them.

Daily Trust is reporting that three passersby also sustained injuries during the melee that took place at the Satellite town area of Lagos State.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the police command, reportedly said the deceased police officer’s corpse was deposited in the mortuary. He said the state criminal investigation department, Panti, is probing the incident.

Quoting an anonymous police officer, the report said the killer naval ranting stabbed the police officer with a jack knife.

“We were able to rush our men and three other passersby to Adeyemi Private Hospital, but ASP Abion Hezikel could not make it as he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. Anyway, the other officers and three passersby who were so stabbed were treated and discharged.

“Two of the naval personnel have been arrested while two others are at large, but we have reported the incident to the military authorities to enable them to release the other two fleeing personnel of the Navy,” the police officer allegedly said.

Edward Yeibo, the Command Information Officer, Western Naval Command, said a traffic infraction led to the fight between the ratings and some policemen in the area.

“Some policemen arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and started firing. Presently, an investigation is being conducted to ascertain the actual cause of the incident. The outcome of the investigation would be made public,” he said.
