Counsel seeks death for Hanifa’s suspected killers

Hanifa Abubakar’s killers deserve to die, the prosecution counsel told a Kano High Court on Tuesday

Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, the prosecution counsel, told Justice Usman Na’abba that the evidences presented in trial  showed the suspects, namely Abdulmalik Tanko, Hashim Isyaku and Fatima Jibril Musa committed the offences.

Tanko was Hanifa’s school proprietor, who kidnapped and murdered her.

He was aided in the crime by the two other suspects, all of who were slapped with five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, confinement, and culpable homicide.

“We urge the court to pass death sentence on all the defendants because the punishment of those sections under which they are all charged carried the same punishment of death penalty,” he prayed.

After the prosecution and the defence counsels adopted their written addresses, Justice Na’abba announced July 28 as the judgment date.

TheCornet reports that Tanko abducted Hanifa on December 4, 2021, on her way home from Islamiyya School. She was later found dead.

Tanko confessed to kidnapping and killing the victim with N100 rat poison initially, he would later recant his testimony during the trial.
