Cash-strapped Adeleke adopts austere measures in Osun

Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun, has urged state officials to adopt austerity due to the state’s meager finances. The governor announced the suspension of foreign travel for officials, except where such is needed.

Adeleke made the announcement during a meeting with his cabinet on the state’s Medium-Term Expenditure Framework to be submitted to the state House of Assembly.

Adeleke, in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said that “foreign trips for top officials for the rest of the year are hereby suspended unless in an emergency.”

“We must sustain the momentum of our service delivery by avoiding excessive spending on recurrent and overhead costs. Our needs, from office to accommodation, are much, but our resources are limited. So we have to devise a coping mechanism pending the time our funding situation improves,” the governor reportedly said.
