Buhari urged to declare bandits terrorists

The Nigerian Senate has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to declare bandits terrorists, arrest, and prosecute their leaders.

Equally, the Senate advised the President to declare total war on criminals.

This follows a resolution the Senate made on Wednesday.

The resolution was sequel to Senator Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto East) and eight others’ motion tabled on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday.

Gobir mentioned the attack on a military base in Sokoto at the weekend, where several security operatives were killed.

“Most of the bandits have now relocated to Sabo Birni and Isa LGAs due to the sustained military operations in Zamfara,” he said.

“The present military onslaught on the bandits is not well coordinated because it is only being orchestrated in Zamfara instead of all front lines ravaged by banditry. The operation should be holistic.”
