Aspirants jostle for Edo governorship ticket, PDP rakes in millions

Political aspirants jostling for the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have put into the party’s coffers N265million.

The money is realised from the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms, sold for N30million and N5million respectively.

The party however gave female aspirants and persons living with disability a concession of getting the expression of interest form free.

The aspirants are deputy governor, Philip Shuaibu; a former Chairman of Sterling Bank, Asue Ighodalo; Blessing  Igbinedion, and Anselm Usiose Ojezua. Others are Felix Akhabue, Martin Uhomoibhi, Umoru Hadizat, and Omoregie Ihama.

The PDP has said it would hold a congress on February 22 to select its flag bearer for the election coming up on September 21, 2024.

The party is likely to adopt the indirect primary mode, while promising aspirants a credible election from which its candidate will eventually emerge.
