Armed robbers shoot three children, two others inside church
Three children were among the five persons who sustained gunshot injuries due to a robbery incident that took place at a church.
TheCornet gathered from local media reports that the armed robbers invaded the Heaven Assembly church, located at Atwima Afrancho in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, shooting indiscriminately.
According to an eyewitness, the robbers stormed the premises of the Heaven Embassy church, around 1:00am, during a watch night service on Easter Friday.
The lead pastor of the church, identified only as Newton, said that they heard loud gunshots while worship was ongoing.
He said they initially took the robbers for police officers, because they wore black clothes.
The pastor also said the robbers, on entering into the church, pointed their guns at the worshippers and ordered them to lie face down on the ground as they dispossessed them of their money and mobile phones.
Pastor Newton said the men asked one of the junior pastors to put off all the lights in the auditorium.
The criminals were also said to have attempted to steal a motorcycle belonging to the church but they decided to abandon it when it didn’t accelerate.
The injured are being treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, said Pastor Newton.
“It’s our prayer that the injured get well soon. They really got hurt because they were bleeding.”
The Kumasi Police have begun a manhunt for the robbers as they begin investigations into the incident.
