Anamba police confirm abduction by gunmen

Anambra state police command says only one of three persons travelling in a sports utility vehicle on Sunday was abducted. This is contrary to reports that the gunmen kidnapped three of the vehicle’s occupants.

Tochukwu Ikenga, who speaks for the command, confirmed the incident Monday.

“The information I have before me shows that one person was abducted. The command’s operatives have since been on the track of the abductors and the situation is being closely monitored,” he stated.

NAN is reporting that a source told it that two of the kidnapped persons are brothers.

The captors reportedly double-crossed their victims at  Nise junction, Nise, near Awka, the capital of Anambra state. The gunmen reportedly set the Hilux pick up they came in ablaze before speeding away in the victim’s vehicle.

“They stopped and operated for some minutes, they shot sporadically before kidnapping about three persons travelling in the same vehicle.

“They set the Hilux pick up they came in on fire and went away with the jeep of their victims,” the source said.
