Aregbesola disclaims own post mocking APC loss in Osun

Rauf Aregbesola, the minister of interior, has disclaimed a post published on his verified social media timeline. The minister, in the post, made cryptic reference to the election lost by his successor and party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He wrote: “Osun le tente (Osun on the precipe) …This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men. Daniel 4:17”

Aregbesola however in his disclaimer described the post as “unauthorized” and asked it be ignored.

In a statement signed by Sola Fasure, Aregbesola’s media adviser, the minister said: “It has come to the attention of the media office of the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, that an unauthorized message was posted on his Verified Twitter and Facebook Pages at about 8:00am on Sunday 17th July, 2022.

“The unauthorized messages have now been deleted. Members of the public, especially the media, are advised to ignore!”

Many respondents to the minister’s disclaimer blamed him for his party’s loss. Aregbesola, a former governor of the state, has a runny political battle with his successor, Governor Gboyega Oyetola. He vowed not to support the governor’s re-election. He is also the leader of a splinter group within the state chapter of the APC. His supporters are believed to have worked against the party, a contributor to the victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke winner of the poll after he polled 403,371 votes to defeat incumbent Oyetola, who garnered 375,027 votes.

Adeleke won in 17 of the 30 local government areas of the state.
