Another woe befalls Ahmad Lawan as court overrules APC

Senator Ahmad Lawan, president of Senate, has suffered a double whammy as the Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu. Yobe state, rejected his claim to Yobe north senatorial ticket. The latest setback follows Lawan’s failed bid for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket, losing to former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu.

The presiding judge, Justice Fadima Murtala Aminu, nullified the parallel primary election that produced Lawan, on June 9, 2022.

The judge also ordered the APC to forward Bashir Machina’s name to INEC, being the authentic winner of the primary that held in May.

Having failed to clinch the APC presidential ticket, Lawan returned to claim the senatorial ticket already won by Machina, and he would later emerge a ticketholder from a parallel primary poll.

While pursuing his presidential and senatorial gambits, Lawan has always had in his corner Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the APC national chairman. Once probed by journalists how the party aim to resolve the imbroglio, Adamu said he did not know Machina.

The APC chairman, in June, wrote to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), presenting Lawan as the party’s candidate. But Adamu and Lawan hit a brick wall, as INEC insisted on Machina’s candidacy.
