Akeredolu keeps mum on wife’s mistreatment

Ondo state Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has kept mum on the reported mistreatment of his wife, Betty, in Imo state where she contested the Imo West senatorial ticket under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Trouble began for the Ondo first lady after she rejected the instruction by Imo governor, Hope Uzodima, to step down for a consensus candidate.

Betty had said she was outraged by the consensus option after “spending my time and money.”

Instead, she insisted that delegates should be allowed to vote their preferred candidate. Her insistence however did not go down well with the governor, who ordered security agents to get Betty and others so aggrieved out of the party secretariat.

It is believed that Betty’s husband and Ondo governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has a frosty relationship with his Imo counterpart.

Following the crisis that engulfed the APC in March over the delay by the then national caretaker committee chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni, to convoke the party’s national convention, Akeredolu had taken those he believed were in bed with him (Buni) to the cleaners.

The Ondo governor said Buni was being backed by those he referred to as the few ‘Yahoo, Yahoo’ governors “ to circumvent the will of majority “

Those with knowledge of the events alleged Uzodima was one of the governors backing Buni and he might have been slighted by the comment.
