Abba Kyari denied bail as NDLEA declares him flight risk
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected a bail request for drug-tainted police officer Abba Kyari.
This is just as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) described Kyari as a flight risk in a deposition it filed opposing his bail.
The NDLEA said Kyari, having had dealings with criminals in line of his duty, might be inclined to engage them to interfere with the evidence.
The agency further said that Kyari is already facing extradition on charges of wire fraud.
It also said it had the capacity to handle Kyari’s health condition.
On Sunday Ubua, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, who is also seeking bail, the NDLEA said he is likely to be charged for money laundering in addition to the drug charge.
In his ruling Justice Ewite said the NDLEA had placed sufficient evidence to show why Kyari and Ubua should not be given a bail.
He also ordered the remand of Kyari and his co-accused in prison custody till April 28 for commencement of their trial.
