40 persons missing after boat capsized

Dozens of boat passengers are missing after it capsized in Yauri Local Government, Kebbi State. A report has that 40 out of 50 passengers are yet to be found.

The victims are believed to be traders travelling Kasabo, in Agura Local Government of Niger, to Yauri weekly market in Kebbi.

Bala Mohammed, the chairman of Yauri, told Radio Nigeria that the boat reportedly encountered water waves in the Niger River.

Mohammed said efforts are on to rescue other passengers from the river.

Salihu Garba, director general of Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), however said only 22 passengers are missing.
