Frightened Suspect ‘abandons’ four AK-47 rifles

A suspect abandoned a suspicious content that turned out to be four AK-47 rifles, the police in Kano state said.

The police said the state-funded ‘Safer Highway Patrol’ was carrying out a stop and search at Kwanar Garko in Garko Local Government Area of the state, when the suspect suddenly alighted from the vehicle he was travelling in.

“During the operation along Kano-Bauchi road, the vigilant policemen sighted a Lite-Hiace bus trying to change direction with one of its occupants coming down holding a suspicious item.

“This action attracted swift response by the team forcing the occupant to drop the item, zoomed off and escaped from the scene,” Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, spokesperson for the state command said.

“Effort has been intensified by combined security forces to arrest the fleeing suspects,” Mr Kiyawa added.

The police also urged residents to report a crime wherever one is being done.

“They can also report through the command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, 0807609127 and 09029292926,” the police said.
