Zamfara killing “waste of precious human lives” – Atiku
Atiku Abubakar, former Nigerian vice president, has described the killing of about 200 people in Zamfara State as “a waste of precious human lives”.
TheCornet reports the bandits’ attack led to deaths of hundreds of villagers in the north-western Nigerian state.
In his comment on Sunday, Atiku said he was unaware of the magnitude of the occurrence when he commiserated with the Zamfara State Government earlier over killings at both Bukuyum and Anka Local Government Areas of the state.
“Little did I know that the tragedy that befell the people was far worse than envisaged.
“It is heartbreaking to have dozens of innocent citizens killed in just one day. It is a traumatic experience to imagine,” said Atiku on Facebook.
Atiku, who nurses a presidential ambition after his repeatedly failed attempts, urged that “security be ramped up to stem this waste of precious human lives.”
“May the affected families be comforted. I pray that God forgives their sins and grant them rest in Paradise, ” he said.
The Nigerian government has intensified aerial bombardment of terrorists locations in Zamfara and neighboring states. The latest attacks were believed to be some sort of vengeance by the fleeing terrorists.
The government also recently designated the bandits as terrorists, in line with earlier calls by the National Assembly on it to do so.
