We are monitoring naira redesign policy – Gbajabiamila

Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila says that the lower parliament is monitoring the implementation of the new naira policy.
Gbajabiamila added that the legislature might be forced to reconvene from its recess if the naira scarcity persisted.
Although the house of representatives had scheduled its next resumption for February 28, three days after the presidential poll.
He said, “We are watching, and we are monitoring very closely. If need be, we will reconvene the House, even though we’ve all been away for our elections. I will call the House back if need be,” Gbajabiamila said at a town hall meeting he organized in Lagos.
The speaker had threatened to get Emefiele arrested due to his refusal to honour summons on him to appear before the legislators.
He eventually honoured the House of Representatives’ invitation, stating to them his powers to initiate such policy after advising the president about it.
Emefiele also said during his appearance that Nigerians could still swap their old naira notes for the newly redesigned variants. The CBN recently redesigned the N200, N500, and N1, 000 banknotes while setting deadlines for Nigerians possessing the old notes to exchange them for newer, redesigned ones.
But, the policy has seen poor implementation as Nigerians scramble for the newly introduced, but scare banknotes.
