Ukraine: G7 holds emergency meeting over Russia’s renewed onslaught

Leaders of the G7 industralised countries are set to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the Russia’s renewed offensive against Ukraine.

Russia this week launched ferocious air and drone attaRusscks against infrastructure in different Ukrainian cities, in retaliation for Ukraine’s bombing of the Crimea bridge.

BBCis reporting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be joining the leaders of the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada at the meeting.

Zelensky is expected to push the case for more military assistance – with Ukraine specifically calling for more air defence systems.

Equally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has hinted of possible meeting between US President Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin.

Turkey is expected to hold the meeting. Lavrov said Russia would not turn down a meeting between President Putin and US President Biden at a forthcoming G20 meeting.

There have been unconfirmed reports that both Putin and Ukraine’s Zelensky will attend the G20 summit in Bali on 15-16 November.
