Tinubu would govern through ‘unelected surrogates’ – Dogara-led group
The Yakubu Dogara-led group has raised concerns on the state of health of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu. The group has maintained opposition to the ruling party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Simon Achuba, one of the aggrieved chieftains and a former governor of Kogi Stat, revealed the group’s position on Friday.
According to him, “the APC government had shown it was incapable of tackling security challenges and turn around the national economy.”
He also said, “A further compounding albatross on its neck is the unfortunate self-inflicted divisive same-faith-ticket which cannot guarantee the desired peace, unity and cohesion in Nigeria, a decision that has been kicked against by a huge population of Nigerians.
“The perception that the APC Presidential candidate has some health challenges makes people very uncomfortable. There is the fear that it may precipitate a situation where unelected surrogates will be running the government while the president left attending to his health,” he said.
The group however declared support for opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar, describing him as the best among the presidential hopefuls.
Dogara, a former speaker, House of Representatives, is among the Christian members opposed to the APC’s decision to float a same-faith ticket.
Reacting to Dogara’s endorsement of Atiku, Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said, “Yakubu Dogara should have spared us all the drama. From PDP and back to PDP. Nothing has changed; no alteration of political permutations. They were not with us in 2019 when we won.”
