Atiku excited by Oyo PDP’s support despite Makinde’s opposition

Abubakar Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, has applauded the show of support by party faithful in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The declaration of support by the faithful runs contrary to Governor Seyi Makinde’s opposition to Atiku.

TheCornet had reported how the PDP members rejected Governor Nyesom Wike’s advice that they should vote only for the presidential candidate Makinde recommends to them.

The comment instead ignited loud chanting of Atiku’s name from the party faithful.

In acknowledging their support, Atiku tweeted his appreciation on Friday.

He said, “Oyo State, I heard you loud and clear yesterday. I take it warmly as a vote of confidence in me and our great party, @OfficialPDPNig. You proved that my love for the Pace-Setter State over the years is not in vain.

“My promise to you is this: we shall work closely together in the mission to Recover Nigeria.”

Governor Makinde, Wike and three other governors of the party had withdrawn their support for Atiku. The governors believe Atiku is aiding the national chairman Iyorchia Ayu to stay on in his position despite their calls for his resignation.

The governors’ grouse is that Ayu, who hails from Benue State, is a northerner like Atiku and should vacate the position for a southerner, so as to ensure equity in distribution of offices.
