Police arrest three suspects behind Gistlover blog

The Nigeria Police have paraded three suspects for Cyber stalking and blackmailing. The suspects, namely Adebukola Kolapo, (27); Nnedum Micheal Somtomchukwu, (25) and Isaac Akpokighe, (30) are said to be promoters of the online blog, Gistlover.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the police, said a petition by a politician, Hon. Seye Oladejo, led to their arrest.

The police said that their arrests followed the “fight against the menace of cyberstalking, threat to life and blackmailing” by the bloggers.

Adejobi added that the suspects were members of a “syndicate called Gistlover family”. He also said that blog’s activities had elicited ‘public outcry over the years’.

“Upon arrest the suspects revealed their various degrees of involvement in the conspiracy, corroborating the already available overwhelming evidences,” Adejobi said.

One of the suspects, Kolapo (a.k.a Omo oba Gistlover) “was responsible for the creation of over 80 percent of the Gistlover pages.

“Adebukola has also contributed in laundering monies gotten from the illegal scheme through various means,” the police said.

Another suspect, Akpokighe, is said to have created parody Gistlover accounts on social media to defraud unsuspecting citizens.

“By so doing, he (Akpokighe) created several of such pages and mirrors the activities of the blog including reposting the defamatory and life-threatening post against the complainant and many other notable Nigerians.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the police said.
