Unemployed #EndSARS protester in prison for burning BRT bus

An unemployed man, Chinasa Michael, has been remanded in prison after he was arraigned for setting alight the Bus Rapid Transit, BRT, terminal in the Oyingbo area of Lagos state.

The 21 years old defendant is facing charges bordering on arson and actions likely to cause breach of the peace. He is said to have committed the offence during the October 20, 2020 #EndSARS protest.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Segun Oke told an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday that Michael and others at large committed the offence.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of  Sections 168, 343 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate, M. C Ayinde, did not take Michael’s plea, before ordering his remand in Kirikiri Correctional Center.

Ayinde also directed that Michael’s file be sent to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The case was adjourned till September 1 for hearing of the legal advice.
