We will resist Tinubu’s presidency cabal – Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume is unrelenting in his criticisms against the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to relocate some of its department to Lagos State from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Ndume sparked a controversy last week when he threatened that the action, if carried out, would have “political consequences” for President Bola Tinubu’s reelection.

In his latest interview with Daily Trust, Ndume asserted that a ‘cabal’ was forming around the president and “it should be cut to size.” Ndume believes the said cabal is responsible for the CBN’s decision and that of the Aviation ministry to return its critical departments to Lagos, where it originally was.

Ndume said, “The biggest problem is that there is an emerging political cabal around the president (Bola Tinubu), which is normal, but it should be cut to size, otherwise it will create damage for him. And they are not in the position to fix it because they are not politicians.”

He added: “We should not mix administration with politics. In the first place, if Tinubu did not win as president, the current CBN governor wouldn’t have been there; and if it is administrative, why didn’t they sit for exams before he was selected?

“He is a political appointee of Mr President, so he cannot separate his job from politics; let him know that.”

The senator, who seems to have created for himself a reputation as the champion of northern interest in the Senate, also said he and his colleagues in the northern senators caucus are scrutinising the 2024 budget to see if it is skewed against the north.
