Oyo kingmakers questioned by EFCC over alleged bribery

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly questioned two kingmakers, who were alleged to have taken bribes to favour their preferred candidate for the vacant Alaafin of Oyo stools. The ancient stool became vacant following the death of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

Those questioned are High Chief Yusuf Ayoola; Agbaakin of Oyo town, High Chief Asimiyu Atanda; Samu of Oyo town, according to a report by Punch. Others so indicted but failed to report to the EFCC are High Chief Lamidi Oyewale; Lagunna of Oyo town, High Wakilu Oyedepo; and Akinniku of Oyo town.

The anti-graft commission is believed to have acted on a complaint by one of the candidates vying for the stool. The kingmakers are said to be factionalised and, as a result, unable to agree on an acceptable successor to the late Oba Adeyemi.
