Supreme Court affirms Adeleke rightful PDP governorship candidate

The Supreme Court, on Thursday, affirmed the Governor-elect of Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke as the rightful governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Adeleke had defeated incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola in the governorship poll, held July 16.

However, Adeleke’s challenger for the PDP ticket, Prince Dotun Babayemi faulted his candidacy and decided to file a lawsuit. The case could not be heard on its merit because it was statute barred. The supreme court justices, led by Justice Amina Augie, held that the appeal was filed outside the 14 days period provided by the law.

Based on this, they declared the appeal as incompetent.
