Sanwo-Olu approves N5m payout to brutalised Uber driver
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the payment of N5 Million compensation awarded by a court to a Uber driver Adedotun Clement, based on the human rights suit he instituted against the Lagos state government.
A video had surfaced during the commemoration of the EndSARS protest in 2021 showing law enforcement and two officials of the Lagos State Neighborhood Security Agency manhandling Clement who drove into a security barricade at the Admiralty Toll Plaza, Lekki.
Although the state ministry of justice had appealed the ruling, Governor Sanwo-Olu opted to bring a closure on the matter, “in the interest of public good.”
He said, “After reviewing Mr. Clement’s case, I’ve directed the Honorable Attorney General to set up a meeting and pay him the compensation awarded by the Court.
“As a strong advocate for the rule of law, I commend all parties for seeking justice through the appropriate channels, and I remain committed to upholding the rights of all Lagosians.“
