Sanwo-Olu approved for second term – Akosile

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has got the approval of the Lagos state’s elite advisory body to contest a second term of office in 2023.

Gboyega Akosile, the governor’s press secretary, said this in a post on Facebook.

Akosile wrote: “The Governance Advisory Council at a meeting in Lagos today gave pass mark to Sanwo-Olu for staying through (sic) to the developmental agenda of Lagos.”

Sanwo-Olu is in the twilight of his first term of four years. The governor had campaigned on his THEMES agenda, choosing as his focal points education and technology, health and environment, traffic management and transportation.

Unlike Sanwo-Olu, his predecessor, Akinwunmi Ambode, was denied a return ticket, based on claims that he refused to dispense patronages to party members.

Ambode was also said to have deviated from an already existing development plan for the state.

Ambode didn’t leave the stage without giving a fight as he contested but lost the primaries for the party’s ticket to Sanwo-Olu, who was favoured to win.
