Police shooting of Lagos mob justified – spokesperson

Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, has said police shooting of a mob in the Ibeju Lekki area of the state metropolis is ‘justified.’

Narrating the incident in a string of tweets, Hundeyin claimed irate youths trailed some police officers who had arrested a suspect.

The mob however missed their targets, but descended on different set of police officers guarding a company sited in the area.

“The irate youths, numbering over two hundred then decided to descend on the policemen, pelting them with stones and destroyed a Lexus SUV within the premises

“When it became apparent that the mob was hell-bent on lynching the policemen, the policemen justifiably used their firearm.

“One of the attackers was hit and is (sic) currently responding to treatment in hospital.

“The policemen were able to protect themselves and prevent further wanton destruction,” said Hundeyin.

He added that normalcy had returned to the area, while investigation had commenced. He also said a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing mob.
