Police say reason for abducted Methodist prelate’s timely release

Abducted Methodist church prelate Rev. Samuel Uche has been released by kidnappers. The police said pressure mounted on his abductors led to his timely release.

Geoffery Ogbonna who speaks for the Abia police command, said the assailants dropped off the clergymen at the same Umunneochi area they had seized them the previous day.

He attributed the timely release of the clergymen to the “efforts of men and officers of tactical units of the Command and other sister security agencies to nab the perpetrators.”

Neither Ogbonna nor the church has confirmed whether any ransom was paid before the release.

The abductors released Kanu along with the bishop of Owerri diocese of the church around 6:30pm on Monday. They were kidnapped on Monday.

The Methodist cleric and others that were kidnapped with him are said to be in good and stable medical condition.
