Police on the alert as NANS threatens to disrupt APC, PDP conventions

The Nigeria Police Forcesays it has prepared an “operation order” for personnel deployment to  political party primaries even as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) threatens to stage protest at the venues.

TheCornet reports that the Peoples Democratic Party and the ruling All Progressives Congress will have their primaries on May 28 and May 29 respectively.

Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said, “An operation order has been prepared …to provide adequate security at the two primaries.”

Adejobi also said the police are unaware of the planned protest by the students’ body over the continued strike by university teachers.

“I’m not aware of any threat by NANS and as I speak with you, there is no official communication from them,” he said.

Meanwhile, NANS says it would go ahead with its planned protest.

Sunday Asefon, its’ president, said the body is “warming up for that of Abuja.”

Nigeria’s tumultuous educational system has continued to be beset with various challenges that often result in teachers embarking on strike actions.

The current strike by the university teachers under the auspices of the Academic Staff of Universities, ASUU, has lingered for over three months.
