PDP to take “firm position” on Wike, others Thursday

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it would “take a firm position” on the declaration by the Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike-led group not to partake in the campaigning for presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

TheCornet had reported that Wike; his Oyo counterpart Seyi Makinde; former governors Olusegun Mimiko, Donald Duke, Ibrahim Dakwambo, Jonah Jang; PDP former deputy national chairman Olabode George among others had demanded the party’s national chairman Iyorchia Ayu’s resignation as precondition for their support to Atiku.

In his reaction, Debo Ologunagba, the party’s national publicity secretary, reportedly said the position of the party would be such that would “rebuild and rebrand” it.

“As a party, we need to take a firm position to rebuild and rebrand our party. We have been in a marathon meeting since morning (Wednesday). But one thing is clear, no one has rejected our presidential candidate; that is very important. The meeting will continue tomorrow (today) and after the meeting, we will make our position clear,’’ he said, according to PUNCH.

The party’s spokesperson also said they were meeting since Wednesday on the matter.Â

The party’s flag bearer, Atiku, has said he could not force Ati out of his post. According to him, the decision to quit was for Ayu to make. He also urged those demanding his removal to follow laid-down legal processes in the party.
