PDP BoT to meet Wike over feud with Atiku Tuesday

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is meeting with Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday. The meeting aims at placating the governor, who leads three other aggrieved governors and their loyalists in opposing the party’s national chairman Iyorchia Ayu’s continued stay in office. They have consistently demanded that Ayu resigns from his post, which they claimed he offered to do in the case that the PDP picked a northerner, like he, as its presidential candidate.

Instead of Ayu resigning, the PDP replaced its former BoT chairman, Walid Jibrin, with Adolphus Wabara – a former senate president.

Jibrin has reportedly said the BoT would be having a crucial meeting during the week to see how it could resolve the face-off between the Wike-led camp and the party.

“There is a (BoT) meeting this week but I don’t know the date yet. What we are interested in is that we must speak with one voice and stay with the party’s plans and objectives to enable us to win the elections in 2023. We must encourage our members to rally other Nigerians to come out and vote for Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa.”

The opposition party has come under a spell of controversies after the conduct of its presidential primaries. Its embattled national chairman, Ayu, has been accused of helping Atiku win the presidential ticket at the detriment of the main challenger, Wike.
