Ogun lawmaker sue colleagues over removal as speaker

Olakunle Oluomo, former speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has filed a lawsuit to challenge his removal as the speaker.

TheCornet had reported that 18 lawmakers voted to remove Oluomo from the position, citing financial misappropriation and high-handedness among other allegations levelled against him.

Olumo called his removal an “illegal act”, adding that some of his colleagues had refused to cooperate with him while he held the office.

He said, “I have filled a suit in the Ogun state high court asking the court to determine whether a speaker can be removed through gestapo or coup like manner and the court said they should go and serve them.”

Oluomo added that hearing in his suit would come up on the 7th of February.

“I am a believer in the rule of law that’s why i went to court,” he said.

“I have no problem with my colleagues. Although from day one, I emerged as the speaker in June last year, since that time, I’ve not been finding it easy.

“Some members who did not want me to be speaker from that time, have not reneged from terrorizing me in the house. It’s been one problem or the other,” Oluomo said.

While Oluomo kick-starts his battle to reclaim his erstwhile position, his colleagues responsible for his removal have petitioned the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his alleged financial misdemeanour.

In his response to the development in the legislative arm, Governor Dapo Abiodun said that the removal of Oluomo was not a ploy to get at him. He stated that the lawmakers had affirmed their loyalty for him.
