Obi toasts ‘elder brother Atiku’, warns disciples against attacking other aspirants

Former Anambra state governor Peter Obi has congratulated former vice president Atiku Abubakar over his winning the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

Obi had run on the same ballot with Atiku in the 2019 presidential electiton. “On behalf of my family, I sincerely congratulate my leader and dear elder brother, H.E @atiku on his emergence as the 2023 presidential flag bearer of the @OfficialPDPNig.

Also, Obi cautions his supporters against attacking other presidential aspirants.

In a string of tweets, said: “It has been brought to my attention, and I have also observed that some of my numerous supporters are making personal attacks on other aspirants/candidates.

“Whilst thanking you for your support, which I sincerely value and appreciate, I humbly appeal that we all imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and avoid name-calling or personal attacks on other aspirants and candidates.

“The common goal is to make Nigeria better. Elections are a democratic contest and need not be adversarial,” he said.

Obi, a presidential hopeful, resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party to join the Labour Party where he is expected to pursue his ambition.

Since announcing his presidential bid, Obi has garnered wide support especially among social media-loving youths.

The former governor also continues to present himself before the electorate as a frugal politician while claiming to have the knowhow to turnaround Nigeria’s struggling economy.
