NSCDC operatives brutalize journalist, threaten protesters in Oshogbo

Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have allegedly brutalized a journalist during a protest in front of its Oshogbo, Osun State command.

The affected journalist is Toba Adedeji, the Osun correspondent for TheNation, this medium learnt.

The protest stemmed from the heavy shooting by NSCDC operatives in the convoy of Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola on Monday.

The protesters, under the aegis of the National Association of Osun State Students(NAOSS), carried placards with several inscriptions such as: “NSCDC threatens our people in Osun”; “NSCDC are we safe”; “NSCDC, we are having you for peace not to kill our people”, ” Stop brutality against Osun residents” and many more.

The operatives reportedly threatened brute force against the protesters.

TheCornet had reported the recriminations between the state police command and its NSCDC counterpart over the shooting. The police had blamed the shooting on the NSCDC officers in the minister’s convoy. But, in their statement, the ancillary force said its officers only repelled attack from hoodlums firing at the minister’s convoy.

Details to follow as event unfolds.
