Naval officers on trial for oil theft

The Nigerian Navy has begun criminal trial of some officers it alleged were involved in stealing of crude oil.

The suspected oil thieves are to be tried at the WNS Officers Base, Apapa, Lagos, on Friday.

The Navy said the court martial is its attempt to purge the security agency of ‘economic saboteurs and sanitise the maritime environment’, according to a statement by Commander Thomas Otuji, spokesperson for the Western Navy Command.
