Reducing food prices drops inflation in April – NBS

The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says food inflation reduced in the month of April, compared to what it was in March 2025.

The NBS, based on the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) Report it released, said food inflation eased from 24.23 it was in March to 23.71 percent in April.

The report linked this to drop in food prices, this of maize (corn) flour, wheat grain, dried okro, yam flour, soya beans, rice, bambara beans, and brown beans.

Also, the report noted that the April 2025 inflation rate (21.26%) was lower to what it was in April 2024 (40.53%), suggesting a reduction in economic hardship facing the populace.

On a month-on-month basis (April/March 2025), food inflation fell to 2.06% in April 2025, from 2.18% in March.
