REVEALED: How Boko Haram fighters were able to kill 63 people in Borno attack
Some survivors of the last Friday’s Boko Haram attack in Darul Jamal community in Borno State have said that the fewer number of soldiers present during the incident led to as many as 63 deaths.
The terrorists allegedly felled five soldiers and 58 civilians. In addition, a survivor claimed that the attackers “carted away two gun trucks and three motorcycles belonging to the Civilian JTF, and burnt down the signal centre, CCTV cameras, and radio communication facilities”. Soldiers escaping the onslaught abandoned their weapons and cache of ammunition, said Daily Trust.
Hassan Kolo, who escaped into a nearby bush during the attack, said though soldiers alerted residents about ongoing “gun duel with the terrorists”, urging “us to enter our homes and lock the doors.”
“We did exactly that” but “unfortunately, the insurgents overpowered the military and stormed our homes. They went from house to house, shooting adult males on sight and setting our homes ablaze,” Kolo added
In his own account, Modu Abdul said the Civilian JTF put up a brave defence but they soon “ran out of ammunition and retreated.”
“We were all left to our fate, and the insurgents had a field day, killing male occupants house by house.
“We only realised they had left after 11:00 p.m. No security operatives returned until morning,” he said.
